After hearing about Amara Kitchen for months now, I finally decided to make the drive to Highland Park and give it a shot.
Before even looking up the address, I stalked the menu (as I do) to find the most dreamy selection of all-day breakfast bites and healthy lunch favorites. Pretty set on the breakfast burrito, I thought I had solved my usual ordering indecision. Until they were out of the breakfast burrito, and I was left standing at the cashier stumped and confused.
Luckily, my friend was equally as indecisive, so we decide to split the paleo pumpkin pancakes and the rice & veggie bowl.
Amara Kitchen is a great post-yoga lunch spot, but definitely a bit of a trek if you live…anywhere outside of Highland Park, Silver Lake, or DTLA. That said, it’s a great little weekend brunch en route to the Rose Bowl, or if you feel like getting away from your usual Sunday routine.
You can check out their dreamy menu here — happy eating!
I recently had the chance to attend the opening of the Hello Kitty Grand Cafe in Irvine and you guys, it was so cute.
Walk through the colorful front cafe, passing a case of made-to-order donuts and Sanrio mini cakes to the back tearoom, where a reservation is your golden ticket inside.
In the Bow Room, enjoy afternoon tea service at $55 per person. It’s a bit of a splurge, but the experience is worth it. Service comes with a pot of tea, mini tea sandwiches, mini cupcakes and cakes, and scones with honey, strawberry jam, whipped butter, and Hello Kitty-shaped sugars.
Cocktail hour starts at 5 p.m. and offers the cutest adult beverages you have ever seen. Hello Kitty-inspired drinks like the Matcha Matcha with Japanese whiskey, yogurt, matcha, and yuzu and the Dear Daniel with mezcal, pineapple, lime, spirulina, and salted coconut whip are as tasty as they are photogenic.
The cafe is the first and only permanent cafe in the U.S. featuring dual experiential spaces – a fast casual cafe setting open to the public and a separate private room. For reservation-only afternoon tea program and cocktail service, visit their official website here.

One of my favorite brunches in LA can be found at Sqirl, a Silver Lake staple. I love Sqirl because their menu truly has something for everyone.
With tons of vegan and vegetarian options, I find that Sqirl offers one of the healthiest brunches on the Eastside. But if you are looking to indulge, you won’t want to miss their famed brioche toasts.
Here are a few of my favorites from Sqirl:
